Your child does not need to wait until junior year to strengthen the math skills these tests use. PSAT preparation gives 9th- and 10th-grade students a chance to connect classroom Algebra and Geometry to test questions and identify what needs more practice.
I work with students preparing for the PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10 or PSAT/NMSQT. We tailor the difficulty to the test your child is taking and the math they have already studied, rather than rushing into topics they are not ready for.
Solve equations and inequalities, understand slope and interpret linear relationships.
Build confidence with expressions, quadratics and nonlinear relationships as appropriate for the student’s test.
Use ratios, percentages and statistics, and interpret tables and graphs accurately.
Apply angle, triangle, circle, area and volume relationships, with additional topics matched to the test level.
Graph relationships, check solutions and decide when the built-in calculator is helpful.
Translate word problems, avoid common errors and build a consistent checking routine.
If your child has already taken the PSAT, bring their score report and any practice work to our consultation. We can discuss which skills need attention, set realistic goals and build targeted practice instead of repeating questions without understanding the mistakes.
Discuss the student’s course, test version, previous results and confidence with math.
Use a mini-lesson and worked examples, followed by guided and independent questions.
Revisit mistakes and use practice results to choose the next topics.

With more than 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience, I ask questions throughout the lesson to see what your child understands. The goal is lasting math confidence, not memorized shortcuts.
